Frequently asked questions

A few straightforward answers about using StudentIn while the platform is still growing.

What is StudentIn?

StudentIn is an early-stage platform for discovering and applying for student accommodation in South Africa. Available listings and features may be limited while the platform grows.

Does StudentIn own the properties?

No. Properties are listed by independent accommodation providers. StudentIn helps students discover and contact them but is not the landlord or letting agent unless a listing clearly says otherwise.

How do I enquire about a room?

Open a property, review the available rooms and use the contact option to speak to the accommodation provider.

Does StudentIn charge students a booking fee?

StudentIn does not currently charge students a platform booking fee. A provider may still require rent, a deposit or another clearly disclosed payment under their own agreement.

What does NSFAS-approved mean?

It means the accommodation provider represents the property as accredited or suitable for NSFAS-funded students. Always confirm current accreditation and funding rules directly with NSFAS, your institution and the provider before committing.

Are listings verified?

We aim to review listing and provider information, but verification is not a guarantee. Students should still confirm the address, room, price, accreditation and agreement before paying or moving in.

Can I pay through StudentIn?

Payment functionality is not currently offered. Do not send money merely because someone claims to represent StudentIn. Confirm payment instructions and the recipient with the accommodation provider.

How do I report incorrect or suspicious information?

Email support@studentin.co.za with the listing link and a short explanation. Do not include passwords, bank PINs or other highly sensitive information.
